Installating Solar Panels

Today more than ever, people are interested in alternative sources of energy for residential and industrial use. These alternative sources may include water, wind and solar power. Solar power certainly has its advantages and many people are taking notice. Maybe you've thought about it but decided installing solar panels is too difficult and/or expensive. You should know that it is possible to install solar panels yourself. Even if you hire a professional to help you, solar power is still a cost effective way to go. It is estimated that most solar kits pay for themselves within 5 years. From there, it's free, sustainable energy and what could be better than that for your home and the environment?

When shopping for solar panels you will need PV panels as well as inverters which transform the energy into a form you can use. Solar panel kits can be purchased from a variety of top manufacturers. You can purchase direct, from resellers or even online. Solar panel kits contain most everything you'll need to get started. Solar panels are usually installed on ground installed mounts or on rooftops, facing south. You must place your panels where they will receive the most light. This will ensure your panels are effective all year. There are software programs that can help you calculate the precise location and angle for your panels.

Your photovoltaic panels should be positioned in direct sunlight, especially during the brightest part of the day which is around noon. Do a scan of your property to make sure there is nothing obstructing the sunlight such as tree branches. You don't want a shadow being cast over your solar panels if at all possible. When you install your PV solar panels you will need the proper mounts. Mounts are available in three types -- pole mounts, flush mounts and roof-ground mounts. If you find it difficult to install your solar panel kit you may want to hire a licensed professional to do it for you. This is especially important if you want to take advantage of rebates and incentive programs.

There is a wealth of information about installing solar panels on the Web. You might also want to check out some books on the subject. A few titles to consider include Solar Power Your Home for Dummies by Rik DeGunther and Got Sun? Go Solar! by Rex A. Ewing. These books will teach you the fundamentals of installing solar power for your residential dwelling.
